I guess this is the obligatory ‘About Me‘ page that I’ve been putting off writing forever it seems because, well, what is it about me that you’d find interesting instead of reading some of the random articles I toss out on occasion? Well, let’s see:
I’m married to a wonderful woman who is a 4th grade teacher. She actually loves teaching her kids and watching them grow in both mind and spirit. We were blessed with a daughter who in turn graced us with 2 grandkids that we like to spoil. She has a great husband too which is good because after they married, we up and moved away. 
More? OK.
I’m really into computers in a big way. I tinker with different operating systems such as GNU/Linux distros like: Fedora, Ubuntu, Linux Mint & openSUSE to name a few. I also use Windows and have upgraded my desktop to Win 7 Pro. I run the GNU/Linux distros in a VMware player which is real sweet. Virtual Box is another virtual way to experiment with other OS’s. So the term “Geek” or “Nerd” is one I wear with pride.
Interests:
- The GNU/Linux operating system (Linux Mint
9 1011 presently) and it’s seemingly endless source of applications for both my personal and business use. I also use my Win7 Pro box for some applications and experimenting. Music and movies are awesome on both OS’s. - Open Source applications
- New technology no matter what the OS
- Funny videos (Jeff Dunham is The. Funniest. Comedian. Ever.)
- All kinds of Rock Music
- Networking with the locals in my area as well as others from around the world. There’s a lot to learn from folks if you take the time to listen

Occupation:
- I’m presently employed by the Birmingham News as a maintenance machinist. With over 30 years experience in the web offset printing industry, I decided in 2007 to help keep the big greasy beasts running every day along with others in our department.
- I’ve worked for a couple of web hosts as a CSR over the years and enjoyed it immensely. I liked working with customers to help them with their needs.
- I’m presently working on my CompTIA A+ certification because I enjoy working on computers so much. From there I’ll most likely look at the Network+ certification as an option to broaden my horizons.
My main focus on this site is to write about the random things I come across on the ‘net and in life from time to time. Even politics will get a nod occasionally as Alabama has some of the craziest politicians you’ve ever seen. I’m serious! Try this one for example: Political Video
There’s not much point in me trying to specialize in one particular area here as it’s probably been done already somewhere else and it’d be like beating a dead horse in doing it again. So, the Random Bytes articles here and there will do just fine.

I found this one day while doing some research for a project and it just fit me to a ‘T’. The ball-cap, the jeans, sweatshirt, glasses and of course, the beer mug. My typical attire when watching football with friends.
