It's Time to Get Angry

Yeah, I know it’s not very technical or web design-ish nor even anything to do with Linux. But I just had to write this because it hits so close to home with me. My friends are my life just as my family is my life. When they hurt, I hurt. When they feel good with the world, so do I. In this case, we’re hurting pretty bad. Before you click away because this has nothing to do with my normal ramblings, do yourself a favor and keep reading. This affects you just as well as others in this nation.

I have a friend, who will remain nameless as he has enough to cope with now without anyone remotely recognizing his name here and calling him up to inquire what’s going on, has lost his business, his home, gone through bankruptcy, lost pretty much all of his earthly belongings and most importantly, may have lost his soul mate who has been with him for around 30 years. He’s been forced to move in with one of his kids and is doing what he can to try to bring income into the family once again.

This is a proud man who served in the Navy for this country and who had built up a business that employed not only he and his wife but several other family members. His company had been doing really well up until this economy tanked. This very same man spent many a tiring shift in a steel mill working an overhead crane and not one of those with the remote control. His shift was spent in a cab atop the crane in sweltering heat. This was one of his first jobs after marrying. The business that he and his wife started came soon after.

My friend is angry. Angry because he spent his life working hard to make a decent living for himself and his family and loses everything. Angry because he served in the Navy in the defense of this great country and in turn can find no help for his predicament from the very same country he helped defend. Angry because he sees large financial institutions, car manufacturers and other large corporate types get ‘bail-outs’ because they ran their businesses into the ground. Angry because he did not and yet still can get none of the same ‘help’ that they did. Angry because he won’t be getting to go home because it was taken from him. Angry because he’s been pushed to the side as insignificant.

My friend is an ‘Angry Man’ and is damned tired of it!

My friend says we all need to get angry because we’re being taken for a ride at our own expense. We’re paying for things we shouldn’t be paying for. In reality, there is no one person or entity we can put the blame on entirely as it’s shared across many shoulders. Go look in the mirror if you need a hint. All of our shoulders should bear the brunt of this blame for allowing this to happen. So many of us have lost our jobs already. So many have lost their homes and worse.

Complacency has allowed us to become jaded. To allow us to think that ‘Big Brother’ will always take care of us and keep our best interests at heart. We think that by not showing up to vote, it’s no big deal because it really doesn’t matter. That plenty of other folks will take care of this and things will still be good. Well guess what people? It’s not good! Big Brother doesn’t give a rat’s ass about us! All he’s doing is taking. Taking from you and me what we worked so hard for. Taking our dreams, our plans, our retirements, our very independence.

What can you do?

It’s time to wake up people. I can’t do it for you. Hell! I won’t do it for you! It’s time to do for yourselves and begin to wake up what our forefathers started all those years ago. It’s time to wake up our Independence and take back our dreams!

Most of you that know me in any fashion or form also know I’m no radical. I’m just another hard working father, husband, grandfather and proud-as-hell-to-be-American guy that loves SEC football, web design, Linux and many other things we all come together about. Just like you. We have similar yet different interests but still share a common bond. That of being American.

If we can come together over a disaster, we can come together over this too. I for one, am tired of all the giving away of our dreams and getting crap in return for them. It’s time to demand better government! It’s time to demand our dreams back!

It’s time now, people! Before you wind up like my friend.

If you haven’t already clicked away because your complacency got the better of you, then you too think that it’s time to wake up. One by one is all it takes. One to tell another. One to talk to others. One to wake another.

Go out and vote!

The alarm is ringing people. Will you wake up? Or will you continue to sleep the deep sleep of complacency and dream that all will still be good when you finally do stir?

What will you do?
